10 Simple Ways To Improve Your Math Grade

Math is one of those subjects in school that many students complain about, it is not easy. Maths is one of those subjects which you can easily spend hours studying but end up none the wiser.Β However much you have studied, if you can not solve the problem on day of the test, you are lost. The problemΒ many students have is that they don’t knowΒ how to study maths to get good results. The following tips will help you to improve your math study skills

Students in an Algebra I class at West Charlotte High School in Charlotte, NC, on Sept. 23, 2009.

1. MasterΒ AΒ Topic Before Moving To The Next One.

It sounds simple, but it is absolutely essential. If you are having a problem with a topic, continue working with that one until you understand it and can work problems successfully. Attend tutoring, read the book and examples a second time, or even get a totally different book to have it explained a different way, but whatever you do not turn the page and tackle the next topic.

2. StudyΒ In A Quiet Place.

If youΒ have a quiet place without the background noise, you will be able to could focus much better. Β Try to find a quiet spot in your home or in the Library to get your schoolwork done and you will get your work done much more quickly because you’ll be able to focus and absorb more.

3. Don’tΒ Work Math Problems With AΒ Pen.

You will make a mistake; it is only a matter of time. When you do, you will want to completely erase your mistake and write over it. You will never, ever want to scratch something out and write next to the scratch-out. This will lead to a paper that is hard to read, and the scratch-outs will actually increase your anxiety about solving these problems. You want clean-neat paper with a clean well thought-out solution.

4. Attend Every Class.

Listen and pay attention to the material. Math is typically more visual than other subjects due to the equations and problem solving.Β Jot down any example problems from the session/class. When you review your notes later on, you will have a better knowledge of the specific lesson that was taught, rather than relying on your textbook.

5. Ask Β For Help.

The teacher might not tell you specifically what is going to be on the exam, but he or she may give you helpful guidance if you don’t understand. Not only will they show you how to do the problem, but a teacher who has seen you before and knows who you are will be more willing to help you in the future.

6.Β Read The Text.

Make sure you read all of the text and not just the examples. Textbooks often include proofs of the formulas that they expect you to know; this is useful for truly understanding the material and why it works.

7. Start Studying 2 Months Before The Exam.

Do not wait till the last minute. As for the day before the exam, do not be stressed and just relax. Clear your mind when you sleep and you will definitely do well.Β Study as much as possible the day before the test, but allow yourself time for other activities, too.

8. Find Out Various Ways To Tackle AΒ Problem.

For example, with systems of equations, you can solve them by either substitution, elimination, or graphing. Graphing is best used when you can utilize a calculator (e.g TI-84+ or TI-83) as you are more likely to get the correct answer. However, if you can’t use one, then either use substitution or elimination based on the question (some are solved easier by x method than y), or determine which way is easier for you to do. .

9. Join A Study Group.

Different people see concepts in different ways. Something that you have difficulty understanding may come easily to a study partner. Having his/her perspective on a concept may help you to comprehend it.

10.Β Relax During The Test.

Start by doing the easiest problems first. That way, you can have more time focusing on the harder problems.
