Botswana hosts AUSC Region 5

Botswana will tomorrow play host to the African Union Sport Council (AUSC) region 5 karate competition in Gaborone. The event is said to be also a practice tournament in the side of local karatekas which are vying to perform well laterΒ  in the year at the UFAK Africa Karate championships.

PARTICIPANTS

According to Botswana Karate Association (BOKA) president Tshepho Bathai, thenparticipanting countries are Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Angola, South Africa, Namibia, Zambia and the host Botswana. The regional competition will not be having participants from Democratic Republic of Congo.

TARGET

BOKA has revealed that they are targetting a minimum of 60 medals at this regional competition. The junior players are also the defending champions for the event. The association is confident that their players will give a sterling performance because they have been registering a series of successes.

ATHLETES

This year, team Botswana will be represented by an impressive 109 athletes. Among some of the karatekas who will be partaking under the blue, black and white belt is the experienced Hetanang.

RIVALS

South Africa is perceived to be posing the biggest threat to the local outfit and most likely to cause upsets on the local side.
