Oliver Mtukuzi To Perform At The Goldies Fest In Palapye

Legendary Zimbabwean singer Oliver ‘Tuku’ Mtukudzi is set to grace the second annual Goldies Festival in Palapye on New Years Eve.

He will be performing alongside James Sakala from Zambia. Sakala was born in Bulawayo but his family then moved to Zambia where he is currently based. In 2015 Sakala was named a Proflight brand ambassador.
Interestingly, the two legends have also worked together. In 2016, Mtukudzi collaborated with Sakala and the duo recorded a song at Pakare Paye (Mtukudzi’s studio) in Zimbabwe.

The annual Oldies Festival is an initiative by Sereetsi and The Natives which started last year in partnership with Cresta Botsalo Hotel in Palapye. In its inception, the show featured only local artists but this year the show promises to be bigger and better. With a small budget they have ensured that Africa’s two loved sons Tuku and Sakala will be coming to perform alongside another team of local heavyweights Sereetsi and The Natives, Lister Boleseng alongside Duma FM DJs, with Tumisang Mothei as the MC.

Sereetsi told the media that they have laid out a 5 year plan to brand the show a New Year Eve destination of choice and bring tourism to the central district. He said a plan is still being hatched to take visitors on a tour to see some historical sites once they arrive in Palapye. Such historical sites include among others Moremi hills and gorge and Old Palapye among others. He said they have since added changes to the event as they have introduced a VIP section which they didn’t have last year. He said this is a sign of improvement.

Sereetsi said they have retained their last year partners Cresta Botsalo Hotel and this year they will be offering accommodation packages specifically for the show. Other partners who came on board include Duma FM who are media partners as well as Double IP who will provide Sound, Stage and Lighting at the show. He said the show will boost businesses in Palapye annually because every other service will be procured within the area and its vicinity.
