Promoters Stand Up Against The Use Of International Acts For BOT50

Thee clock is ticking and soon we will be celebrating the 50 years milestone as an independent country. A team dubbed BOT50 has been set up to create and build awareness and excitement among Batswana to celebrate the nation’s achievements as we celebrate Botswana’s Golden Jubilee. Now it seems the celebrations, like it is the norm in our country will be spearheaded by foreign acts.

Rumor mill has it that Usher Raymond is booked as a lead act for the show. This has left a vile taste in the mouths of our local promoters. “We built this industry not by vile acts, deception and unprofessionalism as Ms Charity Kgotlafela (Board 50 Coordinator) would like to have our beloved nation believe,” said Zenzele Hirschfeld, Botswana Entertainment Promoter’s Association President.

The truth is any artist can be called to perform at any given time in Botswana, but BOT50 is our baby, it has to empower Batswana. “We are coming for you, worse enough they even took the President’s competitions, they use arts and culture money to push their campaigns through Bot50,” said one Thapelo Koitsiwe.

Launched in May 2015, BOT50 was established to coordinate plans and activities for Botswana’s 50th Anniversary of Independence Celebrations. They consider themselves highly patriotic to the nation therefore they want to promote patriotism and national symbols.
