In an effort to build positive relationship, and creating strong ties ahead of cooperation talks Botswana Patriotic Front (BPF) met Alliance for Progressives (AP), and Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) Presidents.
The BPF National Executive Committee (NEC) organized a meet and greet session for the contracting parties presidents. The same session was also used to discuss “various issues in the interest of the country and its people” according to BPF Publicity Secretary, Lawrence Ookeditse.
“The leaders addressed various issues ranging from a collective vision for Botswana, constitutional review, integrity of elections to the need for us all to sacrifice ourselves for future generations of our people. To this end, the leadership spoke to the need for parties to always champion ideals of social justice and unity of our country even in the face of an increasingly aggressive BDP regime.
The leadership discussed the need for reforms at institutional level and to hold each other accountable as we seek to deliver an even more prosperous Botswana for its people. The discussion was termed the beginning of ongoing dialogue on taking Botswana to greater heights. The leaders acknowledged the different formations but a need to work together for greater ideals.” Ookeditse said when giving the update after the meeting.
Of recent, the opposition parties have been giving each other support on their events, issues of national interest, and debates. Over the weekend, Botswana National Front (BNF) held a birthday celebration rally for their Fifty-six (56) years since inception, and Lawrence Ookeditse was present at the rally. Former President’s close ally- Isaac Kgosi was also present at the rally.
While there are tantrums from the ruling party followers condemning the opposition for hypocrisy, the opposition argues that they never hated Khama and Kgosi, but they did not agree with how they did things back then. The opposition ‘refuses’ to help the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) ‘to hate’ Khama and Kgosi.
