Rural Development A Priority – VP Tsogwane

His Honour the Vice President, Mr Slumber Tsogwane says rural development remains a priority which all stakeholders should vigorously support. Vice President Tsogwane said this at the opening of the on-going Rural Development Council (RDC) meeting held in Gaborone this morning.

Vice President Tsogwane who is the Chairperson of the Rural Development Council, urged members to deliberately push vigorously the rural development agenda. He further called them to support development initiatives and fund community based projects.

The Vice President said core to the deliberations of the RDC is to collectively contribute to achieving the RESET agenda and the Transformation agenda. He added that creating jobs in rural areas is of great importance.

To this effect, the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has proposed an introduction of the RDC projects funding through the Public Investment Programme (PIP) during NDP 12. The Vice President explained that if approved, the RDC projects are expected to help dedicate and accelerate establishment of community based projects around the country.

The purpose of today’s meeting is to among others deliberate on updates and progress reports on resolutions made by the Council from previous meetings.
