Botswana Council of NGOsΒ Vacancy: communications & advocacy coordinator

Botswana Council of NGOs (BOCONGO) seeks to employ a dynamic individual for the position of Communications and Advocacy Coordinator. The individual will report to the Executive Director. The key objective for the position is to shape and strengthen the institution’s Communications, Public Relations and Advocacy Strategy and implementation for a global audience, and to further leverage digital marketing skills and tools for this purpose.
Job Responsibilities
β€’ Coordinate the work of NGO members through District liaisons and thematic group coordinators, to ensure collaboration and structured reporting.
β€’ Create and implement a comprehensive multi-platform communications strategy that includes consolidating BOCONGO’s brand and expanding the NGO Sector activities to specific audiences.
β€’ Manage and execute the communications strategy.
β€’ Manage and update BOCONGO’s media platforms including online membership & stakeholder database.
β€’ Evolve and implement a social media strategy and manage the online profiling of the institution including writing and editing news items and institutional press releases.
β€’ Oversee and manage content development.
β€’ Update and develop marketing and advocacy materials.
β€’ Map and management of stakeholders and partners to cultivate new opportunities for external brand marketing, media outreach, advocacy, and fundraising.
β€’ Participate in proposal writing and other resource mobilization activities
β€’ Keep up to date with current affairs and issues pertaining to the BOCONGO thematic groups as well as communication trends and best practice.
β€’ Management of communications and advocacy department
β€’ Represent the organization at selected meetings, conferences, workshops, national and international engagements as assigned.
β€’ Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
Professional Qualification and Competencies
Educational Qualification: A Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications, Media Studies or related field.
Work Experience: Three (3) years or more relevant work experience. (Experience in a Non-profit sector is an added advantage)
Competencies:
β€’ Ability to effectively communicate the organization’s mission to donors, volunteers and the overall community.
β€’ Active fundraising and/or publicity campaign experience.
β€’ Excellent stakeholder relations skills and understanding of the civil society space.
β€’ Previous success in establishing relationships with individuals and organizations including funders, partner agencies and volunteers.
β€’ Solid organizational abilities
β€’ Strong written and oral communication skills.
β€’ Strong public speaking ability.
β€’ Strong work ethic with a high degree of energy.
β€’ Strong media relations
β€’ Ability to pay extreme attention to detail
β€’ Strong negotiation skills
