𝐄𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐡 𝐓𝐨𝐤𝐲𝐨 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 (𝐓𝐈𝐂𝐀𝐃𝟖) 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭, 𝟐𝟕-𝟐𝟖 𝐀𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟐, 𝐓𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐬, 𝐓𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐚

28 August 2022, Tunis: At the recently ended Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD8) Summit, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida announced that Japan will support African development by investing US$30 billion as the sum of public and private financial contribution over the next three years.

The support will focus on different areas including the promotion of green growth to work towards achieving decarbonization, and on start-up companies where the youth from Japan and Africa will be engaged. Japan will promote human resources development by supporting over 300,000 professionals in different fields including education, health, and agriculture. Capacity building will be provided for 200,000 people in the agricultural sector to strengthen food production and address the food crisis in Africa, through co-financing with the African Development Bank. Further, improvement measures to the lives of African people will be adopted by advancing reforms in sound debt management and helping a resilient and sustainable Africa.

Japan will continue to use international platforms such as the G7 and United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to advance the peace and development agenda of Africa in alignment with the African Union Agenda 2063.

TICAD9 will be held in Japan in 2025.
