Minister of International Affairs and Cooperation Dr Lemogang Kwape says Botswana attaches great importance to the country’s bilateral ties and strategic cooperation.
He said this yesterday at the closing ceremony of the virtual Ministerial meeting of the 6th Session of the Botswana – Namibia Joint Permanent Commission on Cooperation .
He said they had very robust and constructive deliberations, in a very cordial and convivial atmosphere. βWe come out of this meeting even more united and stronger, with positive outcomes, which all attest to our ever-growing friendshipβ
The 6th Session was to further strengthen the bilateral engagements by providing the opportunity for discussions on issues that are pertinent to the socio-economic development of both countries.
The 6th JPCC also took stock of the progress made on the implementation of the existing bilateral cooperation agreements between the two countries.
Minister Kwape said the discussions focused on core issues that are critical to the development of the two countries, and the improvement of the livelihoods of populace of the two countries. These include agriculture, health, immigration, trade and investment, mining, environment and tourism, among other priority areas.
He further reported that the bilateral cooperation have been graduated to the level of a Bi-National Commission (BNC) and will meet annually, chaired by our Heads of State.
β This is indeed a major achievement worth celebrating, on that note, I wish to indicate that Botswana is ready to host the Inaugural Session of the BNC this year, on the dates to be mutually agreed,” he said.
