Mogae takes AstraZeneca second shot

The Former President His Excellency Dr. Festus Gontebanye Mogae has taken his second shot of AstraZeneca vaccine today.

The Former President had taken the first jab of the Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19) vaccine- AstraZeneca on the 29th of March 2021. Mogae took the COVID-19 vaccine today in the afternoon together with the Minister of Health and Wellness Dr Edwin Dikoloti. They became the first people to receive the vaccine when the roll-out began.

Other people who received their AstraZeneca Covid-19 jab include former cabinet ministers Daniel Kwelagobe, Dr. Gaositwe Chiepe, Gaborone City Council Deputy Mayor- Lotty Manyapedza and many others.

According to the health experts, the interval between the first dose and the second dose should be Eight (8) to Twelve (12) weeks. However, it is reported that there is evidence that a longer interval between two doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine (such as a 12-week interval) provides higher protection.

The deputy coordinator of the Presidential COVID-19 Task Force, Professor. Mosepele Mosepele yesterday mentioned that it is believed that one is “fully vaccinated only after two (2) weeks of taking the second dose”

Still today, the Vice President Slumber Tsogwane this morning took his first dose of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine at his constituency in Rakops. Tsogwane, who is Sixty (60) years old, refused, together with President Masisi, to take the vaccine before the nation. The two said they will wait for their turn in accordance with the vaccine programme. The schedule prioritized those with over Seventy-five (75) years of age, followed by over Sixty-five (65) years, then over Fifty-five (55), followed by the rest of the community.

In his address yesterday, Prof. Mosepele revealed that Twenty-three thousand and eighteen (23,018) people have been fully vaccinated. Further Hundred and Fifty-one thousand, three hundred and fifteen (151,315) have taken the first dose only so far. Moreover, Prof. Mosepele said that over One point two million (1,244,999) people has been tested. He further revealed that Fifty-eight thousand, four hundred and fifty one (58, 451) have recovered.
