He President To Participate At The US Africa Leaders Summit, Washington DC, USA

GABORONE, 5th December 2022: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to inform the public that His Excellency Dr. Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi, President of the Republic of Botswana, will participate at the USAfrica Leaders Summit which will convene on 13th -15th December 2022, in Washington DC, United States of America.

The Summit which will be hosted by the President of the United States of America, His Excellency Mr. Joseph R. Biden Jr, will bring together African Heads of State and Government as well as, leaders from the private sector, diaspora and civil society, to discuss US-Africa relations and cooperation on shared global priorities. Accordingly, among others, the Summit will deliberate on issues of peace, security and good governance; food security; economic engagement; global health security and youth leadership. This is the second US-Africa Leaders Summit with the first having taken place in 2014. The Summit is expected to demonstrate the US commitment to Africa.

On the margins of the Summit, a Ministerial Meeting on the African Growth and Opportunity Act will also take place. In addition, a number of Forums will be held including the US-Africa Business Forum which will among others, explore ways of increasing US engagement with the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). Other Forums will include the Africa and Diaspora Young Leaders Forum.

His Excellency the President will be accompanied by the First Lady, Mrs. Neo Jane Masisi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Honourable Dr. Lemogang Kwape; Minister of Agriculture, Honourable Mr. Fidelis Molao; Minister of Health, Honourable Dr. Edwin Dikoloti; Minister of Trade and Industry, Honourable Mr. Mmusi Kgafela and Senior Government Officials.
