LUCARA PAYS A COURTESY CALL ON PRESIDENT MASISI
His Excellency President Dr. Mokgweetsi Masisi received a delegation from Lucara Diamond Company today to brief him about the companyβs growth and opportunities.
Giving progress on the underground development of the mine, the Chief Executive Officer for Lucara, Ms. Eira Thomas announced that they are investing 550 million US Dollars to extend their 100% on Karowe Diamond mine underground.
She stated that this will be first underground diamond mine in Botswana and the largest shafts sinking project in the world. She explained that their plan is to sink dual shafts to 800m depth which will take up to 3-4 years, adding that they intend to extract ore from the deepest and richest levels until the end of 2026.
President Masisi congratulated Lucara and wished them success.
