Before international headlines, prison walls and a death sentence changed the course of her life, Lesedi Molapisi was simply a young Motswana living, loving and making memories with the people closest to her.
For more than four years, the name Lesedi Molapisi became associated with one of the most difficult chapters a young Botswana citizen could face.
Arrested in Dhaka, Bangladesh, in January 2022, Lesedi spent years separated from home and family. In May 2024, her situation became even more devastating when she was sentenced to death.

Following executive clemency, diplomatic efforts and sustained advocacy, including work by human rights organisation Ditshwanelo, Lesedi’s death sentence was commuted and she has now been released from prison.
