Nkaigwa defects, AGAIN!

Haskins Nkaigwa has once more defected. He says he sees it fit to retrace his steps back to the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) as it is his ‘home’. Nkaigwa started his political career at the BDP and has defected four (4) times since 2011.

In his defection, Nkaigwa was quoted saying, β€œI believe my time in the opposition has come to an end. It’s time to be of value to rebuilding our nation and economy of the country. Remember the BDP is where I started my political journey. It is home. Despite all challenges currently facing the world, President Masisi will be far with his promises to Batswana. A leader always have the interest of the people at heart despite how some decisions may look to be unpopular with the people”

Nkaigwa’s letter of resignation to BNF

When defecting from BDP to the newly formed Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) in the run-up to 2014 general elections, Nkaigwa, who is also a pastor said God had showed him that the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) coalition will win state power. He did win as a Member of Parliament for Gaborone North, but UDC did not win state power. He then defected from BMD to Alliance for Progressives (AP) as part of the breakaway group after the bloody Bobonong congress in 2017. Nkaigwa would then dump AP to join the Botswana National Front (BNF) of the UDC in 2019 for the reasons that he believes in opposition unity and that his constituents had urged him to go back to the UDC.

This time around Nkaigwa has announced his resignation from the BNF to the BDP under the pretext that there are internal fights within the UDC, and that the UDC would never achieve anything. The move comes a few days after Nkaigwa posted on Facebook saying he has confidence in President Masisi, and that the nation should pray for the president.

Nkaigwa’s application for BDP membership

β€œI have faith and full confidence in President Dr Masisi leadership. We shall overcome as party and nation the current challenges bedevilling nations. BDP will emerge stronger. President Masisi will always have my backing.” he swore.
