PRESS RELEASE – WARNING AGAINST FAKE FACEBOOK ACCOUNT

GABORONE, 14th May 2020: The Ministry of International Affairs and Cooperation wishes to warn the public against a Facebook account claiming to be that of the Minister of International Affairs and Cooperation, Honourable Dr Unity Dow.

The said account, has reissued several posts advertising false funding opportunities. In particular, the posts falsely inform that the Honourable Minister will facilitate opportunities for 1000 people to receive funding from the European Union Development Funds Program for Small Business Development and Farming.

The Ministry warns the public that this is a scam being facilitated through this fake Facebook account.

The Ministry wishes to underscore that the Honourable Minister nor the Ministry, are not facilitating the purported funding opportunities for small businesses. In this regard, the public is strongly advised not to respond to these fraudulent posts or provide any personal information to the fake account.

Members of the public are encouraged to report anyone who contacts them through the fake Facebook account, to the nearest Botswana Police Station.
