The Botswana Premier League Games Might Face Suspension

It has not been raining but pouring in our premier league office. The Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC) Β was investigating the Botswana Premier League (BPL), marking the highest water mark in the cloak and dagger intrigues rocking Botswana football. Botswana Premier League Board is considering cancelling all the weekend’s games.Β This comes after a circular which was sent yesterday by BFA to cancel all Protests which came as a result of non-Compliance to regulation 2.3.

DCEC investigators swooped on the BPL offices Thursday, confiscating documents, phones and computers. What is understood to have started off as a coup de tat against BPL Chief Executive Officer Bennett Mamelodi, BPL Board Chairperson Walter Kgabung and his Vice Solomon Mantswe, escalated into melodrama as graft busters raided BPL offices, in the full glare of the media and local football clubs.

This is not on, more especially now since the league is reaching its climax. Botswana was named position 91 in the latest FIFA rankings, and if we keep on bringing politics to our football, we might see ourselves degrading to the lowest position.
