Boxing launches RBBH in Phikwe

SELEBI PHIKWE – The Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC) joined hands with the Botswana Boxing Association (BoBA) and Debswana Diamond Company on Saturday morning to launch a Boxing Re Ba Bona Ha (RBBH) Centre in Selebi Phikwe. Boxing has been part of the RBBH Program for over a decade since launching their first centre in Lobatse in 2011. The Phikwe centre brings to four (4) the number of Boxing centres around the country with centres also in Molepolole and Gantsi.

Officiating at the event held at Ikageleng Community Hall in New Stance, Selebi-Phikwe Mayor Lucas Modimana urged BoBA to ensure that the centre remains operational and unearth Boxing talent in the town as it has shown to have a lot of talent in Sport. He called on the Phikwe business community and other stakeholders to support the centre for it to remain sustainable and produce good athletes who will make a living out of sport in the future. For his part, Debswana Corporate Affairs Manager Louis Baseki called on the coaches to use the resources availed to them to their benefit and help change the lives of the young athletes through sport. He said Debswana fully supports grassroots sport development evidenced by their P6 million pula sponsorship for RBBH for the next three (3) years.

He said the sponsorship should also be used to develop grassroots coaches to reach their full potential. BNSC Board Member Geoffrey Gare also encouraged BOBA to continue with efforts to develop the sport from grassroots, so that they can reap benefits at elite level. Still at the event, BNSC Acting Director, Sport Development Peaceful Seleka donated some kits and soccer balls to Ikageleng ward Kgosi Mark Thipe.
