Batswana have been implored to use opportunities provided by the Government to improve their livelihoods. Addressing the media today after the Rural Development Council meeting, the Acting President His Honour Slumber Tsogwane said that the Government has put in place some programmes and policies to assist farmers to improve their lives in rural areas.

The Acting President said that the Rural Development Council have new projects on the conservation of natural resources such as the newly established Predator Parks in Boteti and Borolong, adding that animals captured in these parks are mostly lions and there will be other activities in the park.

The Acting President further stated that in an effort to unlock the full economic value of land, the Government has revised the Land Policy to better the lives of Batswana and improve the value of tribal land. He said Batswana can use their land for different income generating activities such as establishing guest houses and game farming.

His Honour Tsogwane reiterated that the mandate of the RDC is to ensure that rural development policies are actively implemented to improve livelihoods in rural areas. He announced that for the first time, the RDC has been given a budget of P6,3 million under the Transitional National Development Plan (TNDP) to support rural-based community led projects.
