His Excellency Dr. Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi, President of the Republic of Botswana, will travel to Kampala, Uganda on 18th January 2024, to attend the 19th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement on 19th – 20th January 2024 and the 3rd South Summit of the Group of 77 Plus China on 21st – 22nd January 2024, respectively.

The 19th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) will be held under the theme β€œDeepening Cooperation for Shared Global Affluence” and will be chaired by His Excellency Mr. Yoweri Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda, who will also chair NAM from 2024 to 2026. The Summit will discuss global issues of collective concern and interest, as well as foster cooperation among the 120 NAM Member States. The Summit will be preceded by the Ministerial and Senior Officials meetings which will be held on 15th -18th January 2024.

The 3rd South Summit of the Group of 77 Plus China, which will also be chaired by His Excellency President Museveni, will be held under the theme β€œLeaving No One Behind”. The Summit will explore ways of enhancing South-South cooperation in various areas, including digital economy, trade and investment, as well as poverty eradication. The meeting will also celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the Group of 77.
Botswana’s participation at these meetings is key to her support of the collective vision of promoting sustainable global peace, development and security, as well as, fostering her enhanced engagement in multilateral fora and influence on the global development agenda, while advancing the interests of Batswana.

His Excellency the President will be accompanied by Honourable Dr. Lemogang Kwape, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Senior Government Officials. The President will return to Botswana on 23rd January 2024.
