The North East Regional Director under the Ministry of Child Welfare and Basic Education, Mr Labane Mokgosi, along with his team of education officers, has begun a series of “touch base” visits to schools across the North East Region. The region comprises 85 schools, including primary, junior, and senior secondary institutions. The initiative started yesterday at Masunga Primary School and continued today at Phatsimo Primary School in Francistown.

During the visits, Mr Mokgosi and his team of subject specialists engage with school staff to evaluate both academic and pastoral operations. The team recognises that schools operate under varied circumstances and geographical contexts, and tailors support to address these differences. The visits aim to identify gaps, acknowledge successes, and ensure schools are on track to achieve their educational objectives.

Key discussion areas during the visits include professionalism in the workplace, cultivating a positive work culture, financial management, and the welfare of both staff and learners. The Regional Director emphasised the importance of recognising efforts put in place by schools to meet desired goals, while also providing guidance on areas requiring improvement.

The Ministry’s team will continue these visits throughout the North East Region, reinforcing collaboration between education officers and school leadership. This approach is designed to strengthen school performance, improve learner outcomes, and promote an environment where staff and learners can thrive.
