Mmathubudukwane, Botswana – 20 May 2025 – Acting President Mr Ndaba Gaolathe today visited the Mmathubudukwane Police Station to assess the aftermath of a recent incident in which the station was allegedly set ablaze by a 39-year-old suspect, Ian Bafo Legopo. During the tour, Acting President Gaolathe met with affected officers and expressed his support and appreciation for their resilience in the face of adversity. He emphasized the importance of strengthening community trust and rebuilding the facility to serve the public more effectively.
“This act of destruction has not only damaged government property but has also disturbed the sense of security in this village,” said Mr Gaolathe. “We will work closely with law enforcement to ensure justice is served, and we will explore all avenues to rebuild and restore full functionality to the police station.”
The suspect, Ian Bafo Legopo, is currently in police custody and investigations into the cause and circumstances surrounding the fire are ongoing. Authorities have not yet released further details but have assured the public that the case is being handled with urgency and diligence.
Community members have expressed concern over the incident but have welcomed the swift intervention by the Botswana Police Service and the visit by the Acting President as a sign of the government’s commitment to local security.
