Tsogwane showers India with praises

In observance of sixteenth CII-EXIM Bank Digital Conclave, the Vice President- His Honor Slumber Tsogwane has hailed India India for its unwavering support to Africa.

Tsogwane said as he remembered the hand extended by India in the fight against Corona Virus Disease. “We are also heartened to acknowledge that at the peak of the pandemic, India, despite its own challenges, donated lifesaving Covid-19 vaccines to Botswana and other developing countries both in Africa and the Asia. I believe we can all agree that this is a demonstration of India’s consistency and unwavering commitment to the wellbeing of Africa. It is also not a new phenomena as India has historically supported Africa including during the liberation struggle and on different issues at the United Nations and other global fora.” Said Tsogwane.

The Vice President also used the same opportunity to lure Indian investors to Botswana. He did so mentioning the fields of pharmaceuticals, especially the production of COVID-19 vaccines. Tsogwane says Botswana is the best haven for investors due to the country’s political and economic stability, as well as the available Special Economic Zoses.

“As a leading producer of phamarcuetical drugs, India is well positioned to assist Africa in this regard. I wish thus, to invite manufacturers of vaccines and medicines, some of whom are present in this Forum, to set up production facilities in our region, and I strongly suggest Botswana in this regard. This would guarantee supply of medicines, transfer of technologies and establishment of partnerships in research and development. Furthermore, Botswana provides a strategic location as a manufacturing base for the Southern African market, as well as the wider African market through the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).” he pleaded.

The Conclave has become a prestigious event for Indian and African governments and industry to meet and explore new avenues of partnerships. The annual gathering enables the Indian and African leadership to take stock of the progress of the partnership and address future needs in this regard. The event was held under the theme β€œSetting new milestones for India-Africa partnership”.
