Apple Music Home Session features Afro-pop singer, Nomfundo Moh

Apple Music’s Home Session features reimagined signature songs and thoughtful covers recorded by artists at home and today, South African rising Afro-pop singer and songwriter, Nomfundo Moh, releases her own stripped down Home Session.

“Lockdown taught me that the sky’s the limit. The pandemic deprived us of opportunities for live performances, but that did not turn me down but gave me a chance to record more music at the studio. Platforms like Apple Music made life easy as people were able to access my music through them. It also helped me improve upon my work ethic – I had to make time for both music and academics so I had to work twice as hard as I did before lockdown. I am content with the growth so far and want to grow further,” Moh tells Apple Music

The Home Session EP, available to stream on Apple Music in Spatial Audio, will feature three exclusive unplugged tracks from the expressive vocalist, including two tracks off her latest album Amagama, and one cover of Brenda Fassie’s iconic track “Too Late for Mama”.

“Having heard my Apple Music at Home Session in Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos was absolutely mind-blowing! I could hear all the instruments and parts of my songs, altogether around me, It’s so amazing! I hope you enjoy it as much as I have!” Moh exclaims.

“I chose ‘Soft Life’ because it describes a life of contentment I wish to live one day, and I always get touched when I realise how much people also relate to the song – we all wish to live a better life one day,” Moh explains about the original track off Amagama (2022).

“Then ‘Phakade Lami’ is symbolic of women’s empowerment as I got to work with the queens, Sha Sha and Ami Faku. I also saw the relevance of the song since it’s a month of love and people have shown me so much love by supporting me in my music career,” Moh explains about the second original track.

“‘Too Late for Mama’ is a song by the legendary Brenda Fassie, one of the queens I’ve always admired. I chose this song to honour her, and show how much I love her music.”

Moh quickly rose to prominence as a house music vocalist, but switched to an Afro-pop-rooted sound with the release of her debut single “Lilizela” (2019). The recent release of her debut album, Amagama, has cemented her status as a rising star through radiant beats and relatable stories.
