The Industrial Court is a court of law and equity, which exists to provide a professional, efficient, effective and just service in the settlement of trade disputes.
Self-driven, efficient and resourceful Botswana Citizens is sought to fill the below mentioned positions.
Vacancy: Assistant Registrar – Maun
i. SALARY SCALE: E1 (P442 392 – P460 296 per annum)
LEAVE: 30 working days per annum
BENEFITS: i) Optional contributory Medical Aid Scheme (Government pays 50% and employee 50%)
ii) Contributory Pension Scheme (Government pays 15% employee 5%)
iii) Housing and Upkeep allowance of 2% of Basic Salary
iv) For new entrants, a contract of 24-36 months with gratuity payable at the rate of 30% upon the expiration of the contract.
v) Robing allowance at 309.00 per month
QUALIFICATIONS
To be considered for appointment, applicants must have at least Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB) from the University of Botswana (or any other recognised University or Institution) A relevant Master’s Degree would be an added advantage.
EXPERIENCE
12 years of relevant experience, two of which should have been at the level of E2 or its equivalent in the Private or Parastatal sector.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
To plan, manage and coordinate the implementation of the mandate of the Industrial Court in line its strategic framework.
CORE DUTIES
POLICY DEVELOPMENT
β€’ Administers, reviews, and recommends for the advancement of sound and effective court rules, practices and procedures for speedy, efficient and affordable resolution of labour disputes
β€’ Develops, reviews and recommends for the advancement of sound and effective policies and procedures for the management of the core operations of the Industrial Court
JUDICIAL AND LEGAL ADMINISTRATION
β€’ Perform all functions of the Registrar as set out in Section 15(9) of the Trade Disputes Act
β€’ Supervise and manage the Court Registry
β€’ Implements provisions and regulations of various employment related Acts in accordance with decisions passed by the Court, and facilitates the review and amendment thereof as and when necessary.
β€’ Coordinates and ensures case management and processing including allocation and enrolment
β€’ Presides over at a pre-hearing conferences if so directed by the Court or requested by parties to a case in accordance with the rules of Court.
β€’ Presides over court annexed mediation matters.
β€’ Ensures effective Court record keeping and is custodian of all court records.
β€’ Coordinates the compilation of Court statistics.
β€’ Taxes bills of costs.
β€’ Coordinates the hearing of urgent applications
β€’ Implements and monitors technological advances at the Industrial Court, e.g. Case Records Management, Real Time Court Reporting
β€’ Facilitates Circuit Court sessions
β€’ Provides advice and guidance on matters of labour law and Industrial Court procedures to Government Departments, Attorneys, litigants and the general public.
β€’ Undertake any other duties as assigned by the Judge President and the Registrar
ADMINISTRATIVE
β€’ Manages human resources and identifies training needs for Core Services staff
β€’ Utilises and monitors finances and accounts in compliance with Government Financial Rules and Procedures.
β€’ Participates and facilitates the development of Industrial Court strategic plans complaint to Government policies and standards
β€’ Facilitates the planning and management of human resources, budget, accounts and assets of the division.
β€’ Manage and maintain effective communication with stakeholders
VACANCY CIRCULAR NO. 3 OF 2022
VACANCY: Executive Court Reporter II – Maun.
SALARY SCALE: D3 (P 253, 656 -279, 648 per annum)
BENEFITS:

QUALIFICATION
To be considered for appointment, applicants must have at least a Higher National Diploma in Court Reporting Studies or a Higher National Diploma in Secretarial Studies or any related field.
EXPERIENCE
At least (😎 years’ experience in Court Reporting of which two years should have been at D4.
PURPOSE OF THE JOB
To provide Court reporting, secretarial services and office management to Industrial Court Judges.
DUTIES
β€’ Records and transcribes verbatim proceedings in the Court.
β€’ Study case file for each case before the start of each court session.
β€’ Types judgments, ruling and orders from Honourable Judges.
β€’ Researches for the cases cited in the court sessions to ensure accurate citations and quotations in preparation for judgments.
β€’ Plans and monitors the work of the assigned Court.
β€’ Records minutes during initial case management conference meetings.
β€’ Provides general secretarial services for the honourable judge.
β€’ Makes travel arrangements, i.e. reserves flights, hotel accommodation and prepares and retires imprest for Honourable Judges.
β€’ Compiles documents and materials required by Honourable Judges in the Court for their meetings and appointments.
β€’ Researches, collates and summarises information from files, documents and other materials as required by Honourable Judges.
β€’ Establishes and facilitates regular and comprehensive exchange of ideas in the court reporting function and externally.
β€’ Identify training needs and skills gap and makes recommendations to Management.
β€’ Participates in formulation of the strategy for the section.
β€’ Develops and maintains operational guidelines for the function based on the rules of the court.
β€’ Provides guidance to junior staff.
β€’ Deposits delivered judgement into the database.
β€’ Implements set standards.
