Stakeholders discuss the National Multi Model
In line with the National Vision 2036 aspiration of attaining inclusivity, the Ministry of Transport and Public Works through the Botswana Integrated Transport Project (BITP), together with CPCS Consultants from Canada embarked on an extensive stakeholder consultation session with Government Officials, Transport Reference Group, Investors, Civil Society, Development Partners, Media and members of the public in order for them to comment and make suggestions on the completed draft multi-modal transport master plans.
The resultant validated draft National Multi-Modal Transport Master Plan (NMMTMP) and the Greater Gaborone Transport Master Plan (GGTMP), supported by the World Bank, are envisaged to transform the look and feel of the Botswana as well as address the current traffic congestion, reduce accidents and improve mobility nationally and in the Greater Gaborone area.
It is important that the working documents NMMTMP and GGTMP should represent ideas of all those concerned. As such, stakeholders, public and the media were accorded an opportunity to contribute either physically or virtually to the improvement and conclusion of the plans.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Transport and Public Works, Mr. Kgomotso Abi called on participants to earnestly review and contribute constructively to the discussions for a good final product that will be owned by all.
Mr Abi reiterated Governmentβs commitment adding that the Ministry will do the needful to get the National Integrated Transport Policy and the Decentralization Policy implemented.
The NMMTMP and GGTMP are intended to provide a strategic roadmap to guide planning and targeted infrastructure investment over the next 15-20 years.
