The 9th edition of the Born & Raised Festival, in partnership with Serowe District Council, will honour the late Atasaone A.T.I Molemogi, who passed away in August. The festival, scheduled to take place in Serowe on Saturday, will include a one-hour tribute led by South African gospel singer Kgotso. Festival director Goaba Mojakgomo explained that the tribute recognises Molemogi’s immense contribution to the event and the broader music industry in Botswana, highlighting his role in shaping local music culture. Preparations for the festival are in advanced stages, with activities set to run from noon on Saturday through Sunday.
The festival promises an exciting lineup featuring music heavyweights such as Franco, Han-C, Kgotso, Charma Gal, and several DJs. Paul Thuto, the festival’s head of security, confirmed that security measures have been heightened to manage the expected crowd of around 32,000 revellers from across the country. The event will feature multiple stages, interactive zones, and food and merchandise vendors to enhance the festival experience.
Attendees and patrons have expressed excitement about the upcoming event. Tumo Tapologo, a festival patron, praised the impressive lineup, noting it offers a mix of local and regional talent. Street vendor Fonyo Khomela highlighted the festival’s positive impact on the informal sector, stating that it creates opportunities for small businesses to thrive while servicing festival-goers.
The Born & Raised Festival continues to position itself as a key cultural event in Botswana, celebrating music, community, and creativity. By honouring Molemogi, the festival not only pays tribute to a pivotal figure in the industry but also reinforces its commitment to recognising talent that has contributed to the country’s cultural landscape. With strong support from local authorities and stakeholders, the festival is expected to deliver a memorable experience for music lovers and community members alike.
As the event approaches, organisers encourage attendees to plan ahead and participate in a celebration that combines entertainment, tribute, and community engagement. The festival underscores the role of cultural events in boosting local economies, fostering social cohesion, and promoting Botswana’s vibrant music scene.
