BOTETI DISTRICT A WELCOME DEVELOPMENT

Residents of Boteti West Constituency have welcomed the upgrading of Boteti Sub District Council to a fully fledged District. When addressing a Kgotla meeting in Rakops, His Honour the Vice President Mr Slumber Tsogwane told residents that they now have a fully fledged district, called Boteti District Council.

Vice President Tsogwane said this came after the review by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development which found out some districts were too big. Vice President Tsogwane explained that the upgrade was solely for decentralisation purposes to bring services closer to the people.

He added that Boteti District is among other 21 districts that have been upgraded to districts status. He explained that the upgrading of the districts is in two phases and Boteti District is in the first phase.

Rakops residnts applauded the move saying it is a great development that will ease acesss to services. For a long time the residents have been complaining of the long distances they travel for services.

Councillor for Xere, Mr Eric Sekausu said this development will see services reaching people faster. Sekausu said the area will no longer be scrumbling for development funds with many other places like before. The residents are hopeful that this will also help bring more developments to their region.

Boteti District Council, Acting Council Secretary Mr Maramba also told the meeting that Rakops will soon get a Rural Administration Authority (RAC). Maramba said the process has already started and will soon be published in the Government Gazette.

Boteti District Council is expected to elect its leadership on the 23rd January 2023.
