In a major step toward sustainable energy and environmental responsibility, Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) and Debswana have signed a Memorandum of Agreement that will see Debswana acquire renewable energy from BPC. The signing, which took place on Wednesday, marks a significant milestone in Botswana’s transition to a greener and more sustainable future.
The agreement represents a shared commitment between the two institutions to reduce carbon emissions and accelerate the shift to cleaner energy sources. With this collaboration, Debswana will integrate renewable energy into its operations—supporting its long-term goal of achieving carbon neutrality.
Debswana Managing Director, Mr. Andrew Motsomi, described the agreement as a “welcome development,” celebrating it as the realization of a long-held vision. “What was once a dream is now a reality,” he said, highlighting the importance of this move in aligning Debswana’s business operations with environmental sustainability.
Mr. Motsomi emphasized that Debswana aims to be carbon neutral by 2030, and this partnership with BPC is a crucial step toward that goal.
