The vibrant town of Orapa is alive with excitement as the fifth edition of the Botswana Softball Masters Association (BOSMA) games officially kicked off today. Running through to Saturday, this year’s tournament features a thrilling lineup of 16 veteran teamsnine from Botswana, six from South Africa, and one from Lesotho—all coming together to celebrate athleticism, camaraderie, and social responsibility.

The BOSMA games have grown in prestige over the years, not only as a competitive sporting event but also as a platform for meaningful community engagement. True to its mission of giving back, the tournament once again integrates its Social Corporate Responsibility (SCR) goals into the festivities.

Speaking in an interview, BOSMA Chairperson Tsuna Makwa emphasized the importance of the association’s continued efforts to uplift communities through sport. “As per our annual Social Corporate Responsibility objectives, proceeds from each tournament are channeled towards less privileged members of the community,” she said.

This year, BOSMA has selected Khwee Primary School as the key beneficiary. The school will receive donations of winter clothing for its pupils, ensuring they stay warm during the cold season, as well as kitchen utensils to support their daily nutrition and meal preparation needs. The gesture highlights the tournament’s deeper purpose beyond the field—using sport as a vehicle for positive change.

The BOSMA games are more than just a softball event; they are a celebration of veteran athletes, regional unity, and the spirit of giving. With participants ranging from Botswana’s top masters teams to seasoned South African and Lesotho squads, the games also serve as a platform to foster cross-border relationships and promote active, healthy lifestyles for older athletes.

As the tournament unfolds over the next few days, all eyes will be on Orapa—not only for the exciting matchups on the field but for the real impact being made off the field. Through sport and service, BOSMA continues to show that true champions are those who uplift others as they rise.
