Churches Urged To Comply With Societies Act

Churches in Molepolole have been implored to comply with the new society’s act of 2022.

The appeal was made by the Minister for State President also Member of Parliament for Molepolole South Hon Kabo Morwaeng during a meeting with religious leaders this morning.

Morwaeng said the new regulations are meant to safe guard the interest and the integrity of the church against wrong doings. Minister Morwaeng said where there is need for understanding of regulations and processes, churches should engage Registrar of Societies for clear guidance. He reassured the church leaders that government will continue to work harmoniously with the churches through their existing religious bodies.

Meanwhile Registrar of Societies Ms Ofentse Gojamang shared with the church leaders about some of the amendments that have been included on the new act, largely to comply with the financial intelligence act. She urged churches to ensure that they take advantage of the anticipated re-registration exercise that is expected soon. Ms Gojamang further emphasized the need for churches to annually submit their returns for their registration to remain valid.
