Brand new drama, history and adventure on DStv this June

The time to slow down your social schedule and stay indoors to keep warm is upon us. Winter at home does not mean days without excitement for DStv customers.

This June, there’s a new local drama series, a reality dating show with a tropical twist, a look inside the halls of Buckingham Palace and so much more on DStv. Read on to see what to look out for.

The Saturday Showdown
Mzansi Magic (DStv Channel 161)

Just when you thought the end of football season meant that you would have to find ways to fill hour after dull hour, The Saturday Showdown comes to town. This game show, hosted by comedian Skhumba and SuperSport’s own Thato Moeng, is perfect for fans of sports and trivia: there are team stunts, high-energy competitions and lots of fun prizes to be won. Five teams, five celebrity captains and a R3.5 million grand prize. Weekends will never be the same after this!

The DStv Mzansi Viewers’ Choice Awards is a South African award show presented by DStv. The awards honour the year’s biggest achievements in television, radio, music, sports, and comedy, voted by viewers living in South Africa.

Desert Rose

M-Net (DStv Channel 101) will bring viewers a new weekly drama from Reyka creator Rohan Dickson. From Thursday, 2 June at 20:30, tune in to see how the Greyling siblings make sense of their world after their musician father, played by Neil Sandilands, walks out on them and disappears into the desert. Also starring Daniah de Villiers, Tinarie van Wyk Loots and Amalia Uys. This is a story about family and survival, set in some of the most visually interesting places in the Northern Cape.

Elizabeth: A Portrait in Part(s)

This brand new documentary comes after Queen Elizabeth II celebrated her platinum jubilee on 5 February 2022. A 70-year reign is truly remarkable and in this found footage-style documentary by Notting Hill director Roger Michell tells the story of the queen’s life and reign through key moments that have shaped her legacy and public reputation.

Guests who give their loved ones a dream car makeover include Tony Hawk, Mary J Blige and Octavia Spencer, who wants to show appreciation to her close friend and hairdresser Renee. In the end, audiences will be just as blown away as the recipient when they receive the ultimate joyride.

Anything goes as 16 adventurous singles bare it all and look for true love in a tropical island paradise. In this 10-part series, will they be able to make connections without using apps, filters or swipes? It may look extreme, but there are no rules when it comes to finding true love.
