Dr. Never Tshabang Appointed CEO of Botswana Energy Regulatory Authority

The Botswana Energy Regulatory Authority (BERA) has appointed Dr. Never Tshabang as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective 1 August 2025. This leadership transition signals a new phase for the national energy regulator as it works to strengthen policy execution and regulatory oversight.

Dr. Tshabang brings over 20 years of experience across academia, public service, and corporate governance. He holds a PhD in Chemistry from the Australian National University and an MBA from the University of Botswana. His background combines technical expertise with strategic leadership.

Before this appointment, Dr. Tshabang served as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Botswana, where he contributed to research and capacity building in science and innovation. He later entered public service as Member of Parliament for Nkange. While in Parliament, he chaired the Committee on State-Owned Enterprises, where he played a key role in overseeing performance and accountability in public institutions.

The BERA Board expressed confidence in Dr. Tshabang’s ability to lead the organisation through complex energy challenges. His appointment comes at a time when Botswana is exploring energy diversification, regulatory reform, and infrastructure development.

Dr. Tshabang is expected to focus on improving regulatory efficiency, strengthening stakeholder engagement, and promoting investment in sustainable energy. His combined academic and policy background positions him to align BERA’s work with national energy goals.

This appointment follows a competitive selection process and marks a shift toward results-driven leadership at the regulatory authority.
