FACTS ABOUT USE OF THE NATIONAL INDENTITY CARD, OMANG AS TRAVEL DOCUMENT

Fact 1
Citizens of either country holding valid National Identity Cards, may enter, stay for a period not exceeding thirty (30) days at any given time, but not exceeding ninety (90) days in a year.

Fact 2
Citizens entering into the territory of the other country using the National Identity Card, shall be required to exit the territory of the other country using the same National Identity Card.

Fact 3
In the event one has to stay in either territory in excess of thirty (30) days, they must inform the relevant authorities of the country they are visiting for facilitation as soon as it is practical to do so.

Fact 4
The validity of the National Identity Cards belonging to the citizens of either country shall not be less than three (3) months from the time of entry into either territory.

Fact 5
Citizens of either country are not exempt from the obligation to comply with the national laws and regulations of the each respective country concerning their entry, stay and exit.

Fact 6
Either country reserves the right to refuse the entry or stay of persons considered undesirable or likely to endanger public order, public health or national security.

Fact 7
The citizens of either country, who have lost or damaged their National Identity Cards or from whom the National Identity Cards have been stolen while staying in the territory of the other country, shall inform the relevant authorities.

Fact 8
The use of national identity cards for cross-border travel will enhance the momentum for economic and regional integration and further promote safe and orderly migration.

Fact 9
This initiative will foster social cohesion among the citizens of the two countries, who share profound historical, cultural and economic bonds, in addition to the values of democracy, self-determination as a people, human rights, peace, rule of law, and good governance.

Fact 10
Mamuno Border post will be the first along the Botswana/Namibia border to commence the use of national identity cards as a travel document. Kasane Immigration Office, Mohembo and Ngoma border posts will follow suite and Dobe border post upon completion.
