Galaxy shot down by the Pirates

Jwaneng Galaxy Football Club’s dreams of making it at least to the Confederation of African Football Confederation Cup (CAF CC) group stages let alone lifting the trophy has been cut prematurely yesterday when they suffered a one- nil (1-0) defeat by Orlando Pirates Football Club at Orlando Stadium, South Africa.

Jwaneng Galaxy FC was the only club left in the competition from Botswana, now with their loss against South Africa’s Orlando Pirates FC it means their fate has been sealed. This comes after their three-nil (3-0) humiliation on their home ground to Orlando Pirates FC on first round held on the 14th of February 2021 at Botswana National Stadium, bringing the aggregate final score to four- nil (4-0).

While Jwaneng Galaxy FC are back home and waiting for the start of the premier league to get back to competitive football, Orlando Pirates FC has progressed to the next level which is the group stages.

With Orlando Pirates on Group A is Enyimba from Nigeria, Algeria’s ES Serif, and Ahli Benghazi from Lybia. In Group B is RS Berkane from Morocco, Algeria’s JS Kabylie, Cameroon’s Coton Sport, and NAPSA Stars from Zambia.

Group C has Senegal’s ASC Les Jaraaf, Burkina Faso’s Salitas, CS Sfaxien from Tunisia and a winner between Etoile di Sahel from Tunisia and Eswatini’s Young Buffaloes. In Group D is Raja from Morocco, Pyramids from Egypt, Zambia’s Nkana and a winner between Tanzania’s Namungo and Angola’s Primeirio de Agosto

These sixteen (16) teams are battling it out to be in the final scheduled the 10th July 2021. The semifinals first leg and second leg will held on the 20th June and 27th June respectively. On the contrary the quarterfinals will be held on the 16th and 23rd of May for first and second leg respectively.
