It is a fact not to be denied that tertiary life and politics are intertwined like Siamese twins. The University of Botswana Student Representative Council held elections the past Monday, with students coming in large numbers to vote for strong representatives. GS26, which is Botswana Democratic Party, won the most important positions, just like they did last year. Bacos Mmipi, was voted as the president in a tightly contested position.
It has been a tough campaign with all parties, soliciting votes from fellow students the past months. The University of Botswana is under the Central constituency which is very popular with the opposition. SRC positions have been dominated by the oppositions for years, but somehow the ruling party is slowly claiming it back.
Congratulations to GS26. They took the following positions:
• President – Bacos Mmipi
• Secretary General Dingalo Dingalo
• Justice – Tshepo Chimidza
• Sports – Gobona Sejai
• Information & Publicity – Innocent Molato.
