Jwaneng Mine General Manager, Mr. Goitseone Gadifele, conducted an inspection yesterday of several important community projects, including the ongoing Magagarape road construction, the recently commissioned Maboane Water project, and the Maboane Clinic. These initiatives are part of Jwaneng Mine’s broader sustainability commitment to improving the lives of communities within its area of influence — with an eye toward lasting impact beyond the diamond mining era.
The highlight of the visit was the Magagarape road project, a 40-kilometre stretch running from the Jwaneng Mine North gate to the Letlhakeng-Morwamosu road. This major infrastructure investment, valued at approximately P74 million, is slated for completion by the end of August. Once finished, the road is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion along the busy Jwaneng-Gaborone-Kang corridor.
Moreover, the new road will enhance connectivity to surrounding settlements and cattleposts located behind the Jwaneng Mine, facilitating better movement for residents, goods, and livestock. Improved accessibility is anticipated to boost local economic activities and social services in the area.
The Maboane Water project and the Maboane Clinic, both recently commissioned, complement these efforts by providing critical access to clean water and healthcare services for local communities. Together, these projects demonstrate Jwaneng Mine’s dedication to sustainable development that supports community welfare and economic resilience.
Mr. Gadifele emphasized that these investments are designed to create lasting value and improve quality of life, reinforcing the mine’s role as a responsible corporate citizen in Botswana. As Jwaneng Mine continues operations, such initiatives ensure that the benefits extend well beyond the mine’s lifespan, leaving a positive legacy for generations to come.
