Rakgare lambastes the opposition

While he was supposed to respond to the State of the Nation Address (SONA) as presented by the President recently, Rakgare chose to shift attention to scolding the opposition.

Speaking during the national assembly session earlier today, the Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development- Tumiso Rakgare rebuked the opposition, and former President Khama.

According to Mogoditshane legislator, corruption cases escalated during His Excellency Former President Lt. Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama’s tenure. Rakgare says it is now that President Masisi is working hard to fix the mess which was created back then.

“Cases of corruption have drastically decreased in Botswana. We are witnessing a huge reduction in those cases. Can you say the same looking at the years of 2008 and 2018? We can’t! Between 2008 and 2018 Mr. Speaker, newspapers were always writing about corruption, NPF [National Petroleum Fund] case where the leadership was implicated. I am now surprised when the opposition talk about unfounded issues saying His Excellency the President is corrupt, and is implicated in corruption cases.”

Rakgare says the issues which are raised by the opposition that it was not proper for President Masisi to bid for Banyana farms, and that the acquisition of Tautona lodge by the government was unprocedural, do not hold water.

The youthful Minister says the opposition is coming up with unfounded allegations trying to discredit the President, his deputy, and the entire government as they can see that things are now changing for the better.

“People should accept that they are not ruling, they can advise but we are going to do things looking at how they can be done so that they can benefit Batswana. The President has talked about the issue of constitutional review, he is on it, it has started as we speak.” Rakgare lambasted.
