President Masisi Appoints New Envoys

GABORONE, 13th June 2024: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to announce that His Excellency, the President Dr. Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi, has appointed Major General Mpho Churchill Orebotse Mophuting and Mr. Yandani Boko as new Envoys of the Republic of Botswana.

Major General Mpho Churchill Orebotse Mophuting has been appointed Ambassador – Designate of the Republic of Botswana at the Embassy of Botswana in Washington DC, United States of America. Major General Mophuting has a distinguished military career that extends over three decades. From 2021 to August 2023, he served as the Deputy Commander of the Botswana Defence Force, prior to his redeployment to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a Resident Ambassador. He brings a wealth of expertise and experience that will further enhance the Ministry’s Diplomatic efforts and commitment to building strong relationships with nations around the world.

Mr. Yandani Boko has been appointed Consul General Designate of the Republic of Botswana at the Botswana Consulate in Johannesburg, South Africa. Mr. Boko is a seasoned legal professional with a distinguished tenure as a Member of Parliament. The various portfolios he held as a Member of Parliament exposed him to a plethora of subjects including, defence, security, and foreign relations. With his experience Consul General Designate Yandani Boko will play a pivotal role in providing consular services, supporting citizens, and facilitating trade and investment opportunities in South Africa and other countries of accreditation.

The appointments take place with immediate effect.
