Masisi’s 5 pathways of rebuilding Botswana

President Masisi says his government is committed to rebuilding Botswana, and boosting its economy. Speaking yesterday on the occasion of the 13th U.S Africa Business Summit, President Masisi mentioned five (5) developments or pathways introduced as part of his Reset Agenda.

  1. Vaccination against COVID-19
    The roll-out of the vaccination programme was the first step towards rebuilding a better economy. President Masisi says his government realizes the need to first vaccinate the nation for them to better participate in the Reset Agenda.
  2. Alignment of Botswana Government machinery to Presidential Agenda
    For better results, the President acknowledges the need for his agenda to be in sync with that of the government at large. “My roadmap, including the transformational agenda, should be embodied in the implementation machinery of the government of the day. This will come with significant government reforms in the public service. Some of the reforms are already being implemented.” he asserted.
  3. Digitization
    From early days of his term as the President, Masisi always stressed about digitization and Knowledge-Based Economy. President Masisi is convinced that it is through digitization that productivity and potential can be unlocked. According to the President, the government has a plan to have over Twenty of its services online before the end of 2022, these include e-learning and e-health.

“My Government is looking for strategic development partners who can assist the country to capitalize on the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) technologies to advance the Sustainable Development Goals through this Digital Transformation Strategy. It is my hope that we will see more US companies exploring opportunities to partner with Botswana on technologies and 4IR.” Masisi proclaimed.

  1. Value Chain Development
    The government, the President says, intends to develop the Value Chain. For starters, the focus will be on minerals, tourism, food, and education. As time goes on more sectors will be added, especially in the global export product space. By so doing, more jobs will be created according to the President.
  2. Mindset Change
    The proper mindset for the development of Botswana economy, President Masisi says, lies on that which is focused on citizen economic empowerment. “Mindset Change which places economic empowerment of citizens at the epicentre of Botswana’s economic development. I have indicated that as Batswana, we need to drastically shift our way of doing things to be more efficient.” Masisi underscored.
