Botswana’s Minister of Higher Education, Honourable Prince Maele, is currently attending the 21st Annual Education World Forum (EWF), taking place in London, United Kingdom, from 18 to 21 May 2025. The forum is one of the world’s most influential gatherings of education and skills ministers, offering a platform for international collaboration and knowledge sharing.

Held under the theme “From Stability to Growth: Building Stronger, Bolder, Better Education Together,” this year’s event convenes education leaders and policymakers from across the globe to address shared challenges in the education sector and explore innovative pathways for future development. The forum seeks to advance the global education agenda by focusing on improving life opportunities for children, driving economic growth, and strengthening societies through enhanced learning systems.

Minister Maele’s participation reaffirms Botswana’s commitment to global cooperation in education and its resolve to adopt best practices that can inform and shape national education policies. His presence at the forum highlights the government’s proactive approach to education reform, innovation, and inclusive development.

Accompanying the Minister is Professor Nelson Torto, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Higher Education. The Botswana delegation is expected to engage in high-level discussions and networking sessions aimed at fostering strategic partnerships, sharing national progress, and learning from the experiences of other countries.

As Botswana intensifies efforts to improve access to quality education and promote innovation in learning, insights gathered from the forum are anticipated to play a key role in shaping future strategies. The country is actively seeking to leverage digital tools and global collaboration to build a more inclusive, future-ready education system.

While the Honourable Minister and the Permanent Secretary are away on official duty, Honourable Shawn Ntlhaile, Assistant Minister of Communications and Innovation, has been appointed Acting Minister of Higher Education. Additionally, Mr. Mmoloki Raletobana, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Corporate Services, will serve as Acting Permanent Secretary during this period.

Botswana’s continued participation in international platforms like the Education World Forum reflects its vision to transform education through global dialogue, shared learning, and strategic action — ensuring every Motswana has the opportunity to thrive in a knowledge-based economy.
