Police Donates A House

Botswana Police Northern Division Headquarters in Francistown has donated a fully furnished two bedroomed house to Ms Rulaganyang Mbuta of Sepako village.

The house was officially handed over to the recipient by Divisional Commander North, Senior Assistant Commissioner (SACP) Cynthia Setilo yesterday (24/11/2022).

In her remarks, Mrs Setilo revealed that they learnt of the beneficiary’s socio-economic status a few years ago during an interaction with officers who were on their regular patrol in the area. She added that upon learning of the family situation, they committed themselves to assist in any way possible, starting with the provision of basic amenities and eventually building a house.

The Divisional Commander stated that the project was made possible by voluntary contributions and fundraising initiatives by the officers based at Division Headquarters.

She said that the gesture is yet another display of partnership commitment between the Botswana Police Service and the communities they serve.

When receiving the donation, Ms Mbuta expressed gratitude for the donation saying that the police have not only provided her and her nine children with shelter but they have also brought dignity and honour to her family.

For his part, Kgosi Rebagamang Rancholo of Nata commended the police for the kind gesture. He called on the community to reciprocate such gestures by ensuring that they help the police in carrying out their core mandate of fighting crime. He also pleaded with the residents to report Gender Based Violence (GBV) incidents to the police and uphold children’s rights by protecting them against sexual abuse.

The Sepako house donation is the 76th built by members of Botswana Police for the less privileged across the country.
