The submission for Botswana Musicians Union (BOMU) awards for 2021 is open. This was announced by the Total Music Group today. The Total Music Group is organizing for the popular music awards this year.
Artists, Managers, Agents, Labels, Publishers, Music Directors, Music Video Producers, Album Graphic Designers and Producers can submit their profiles for adjudication with effective from May 6, 2021 to May 31st, 2021.
The awards will be in recognition of the musical talent commercialized between January 1, 2019 and April 2021. Due to the Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19) pandemic precautions and protocols, the event which is usually elegant and conducts a large gathering will be staged virtually.
Thirty (30) categories which will be featured in this year’s music awards include among others; Best Traditional Gospel/ Faith Album, Best Afro Pop, Best Folk/ Indigenous Music Album, Best Selling Ringtone/ Caller Tune, Best Female and Male artist as well as Song of the Year. Enteries are urged to submit into one category. Judges will then select and adjudicate the top six (6) categories, namely; Song of the Year, Album of the Year, Best Male Artist, Best Female Artist, Best new comer and Best Group/Duo.
โWe have started engaging all artists on the submission process and encourage them to familiarise themselves with all requirements and ensure they submit their work in the highest quality to allow for seamless adjudication,โ said Seabelo Modibe, the Managing Director of the Total Music Group.
However, the said music awards are open only for the artists who are registered with BOMU, Phemelo Lesokwane, BOMU President has indicated. Moreover, non-citizens of Botswana who have been legal residents for the past 12 months also qualify.
โAs the local music industry umbrella body, our expectation is that artists should be affiliated to BOMU and enhance their craft and benefit through opportunities created by the association, such as the Awards, upcoming funeral scheme, music market days and virtual festivals.” Lesokwanne asserted.
