The Matsiloje Tati Nickel Mine is set to officially reopen next month, bringing a wave of optimism and economic revival to the region. Speaking about the development, the Mayor of Francistown, Gaone Majere, expressed strong confidence in the positive impact the mine’s revival will have on both the local and national economy. She described the reopening as a turning point for the region, which has long awaited the reactivation of mining operations since the mine’s abrupt closure in 2016.
“The reopening of Matsiloje Tati Nickel Mine is a welcome development. It will not only provide employment to hundreds of people but also breathe new life into the local economy,” said Mayor Majere.
The mine, previously a key player in Botswana’s mining industry, is expected to contribute significantly to the country’s GDP through increased mineral exports and the stimulation of ancillary industries.
