The opening of the 2022 BITRI open day

Botswana Institute for Technology and Innovation (BITRI) officially opened the BITRI open day, focusing on Commercialization.
The purpose of the Open Day was to reach out to customers and stakeholder to show case the various products and services which the institution has been working on over the past years.

When giving a keynote address, the Minister of Communication, Knowledge and Technology, Honourable Mr. Thulagano K. Segokgo stated that the intention of BITRI is people focused organization, therefore it develops technologies that are relevant, problem solving and useable to the communities.

He further noted that it is important from time to time meet with consumers of technology to update, share views and also an opportunity to engage and also an opportunity to give feedback, as Botswana is aspiring to be an innovation hub.

He noted that, this year`s Open Day is to show case the Technologies and Innovation that are market ready for commercialization of the products and services that BITRI has been working on.

Honourable Segoko said that the frame work for the development of commercialization products services and technologies is based on principles of relevance, strategy outcome driven, customer focus, product innovation, joint collaboration and co-creation. BITRI also focuses on the transfer of technology transfer benefiting local small and medium Enterprises.

The exhibition included tour of stalls and laboratory facilities with specific technological solutions. These included, the Matimela Management System, Center of Material Science, Biotechnology laboratory and various energy solutions among others.

BITRI is a research focused institution, established in 2012, as a parastatal under the Ministry of Communication, Knowledge and Technology (MCKT) mandated to conduct needs-based research and development in focused areas. The Mandate of BITRI is to identify, develop and/or adapt appropriate technology solutions that provides sustainable innovative solutions through co-creation and collaboration in line with national priorities and needs of Batswana.
