Six easy steps to battle anxiety.For those with an anxiety disorder, it’s important to look into strategies that can help manage anxiety in the long term, like talk therapy or medication. But one can also benefit from other ways to reduce stress and anxiety with lifestyle changes such as eating a well-balanced diet, limiting alcohol and caffeine. Take time to consider the following steps as well;
1.Stay in your zone
Anxiety is a future-oriented state of mind. So instead of worrying about what’s going to happen, allow ypurself to be in the present at all times. Distant worries and imaginary worst acse scenarios in your head will negatively throw you off.
2.Relabel whats happening
Panic attacks can often make you feel like you’re dying or having a heart attack. Remind yourself: “I’m having a panic attack, but it’s harmless, it’s temporary, and there’s nothing I need to do,”and focus on generating calm thoughts.
3.Breathe in and out.
As clieche as it may sound, deep breathing helps you calm down. You do not necessairily need to do specific breath exercises howver, just focus on evenly inhaling and exhaling. This will help slow down and re-center your mind.
4.Just do something.
Stand up, take a walk, empty your trash, do laundry or read a book-any action that interrupts your train of thought helps you regain a sense of control.
5.Ask for a second opinion.
Call or text a friend or family member and run through your worries with them. Talking to someoe has always proven to be thereupatic so whenver you are in doubt, have somoen you tust on speed dial.
6.Fact-check your thoughts.
People with anxiety often fixate on worst-case scenarios but to combat these worries, rather think about how realistic they are. Get into the habit of re-thinking your fears and train your brain to come up with rational ways to deal with your anxious thoughts.
