STAKEHOLDERS URGED TO TAKE PART IN THE FIGHT AGAINST DRUG USE

The First Lady, Mrs Neo J. Masisi has urged parents to take the lead in the fight against drug use by young people. The First Lady said this yesterday when addressing young people in Rakops during the Youth Dialogue on Drug Use for Boteti District.

Mrs Masisi also called for action from parents, law enforcement and other stakeholders to work together to fight drug use by youth.

His Honour, the Vice President Mr Slumber Tsogwane, who is also the Member of Parliament for Boteti West appreciated the First Lady for championing a meet with young people in his constituency.

The Vice President further encouraged the youth to train and discipline themselves to resist from ways that are damaging their lives.

For his part, the Botswana Police Service’s Narcotics Fauna and Flora Investigations Unit, Assistant Superintendent Alfred Mfanyana stated that the three main drugs excessively used in Botswana are dagga, cat and coccaine.

Superintendent Mfanyana said more than 1400 cases of drug use were registered in the year 2022 out of which the majority of people involved in drug use were men.

Mr Mfanyana further pleaded with the community to report any drug use incidences to the Police saying without the community policing their efforts to fight drug abuse will be in vain.
