The Botswana Patriotic Front (BPF) challenges the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) government to procure the vaccines secured by Former President His Excellency Lt Gen. Dr. Seretse Khama Ian Khama.
According to BPF, the offer that was presented to SKI Khama Foundation by KKM Global Healthcare Group was in fact BPF’s initiative. Lawrence Ookeditse, the party’s Publicity Secretary says the BPF pleaded with it’s patron- Ian Khama to use his contacts to secure vaccines for Botswana.
“A promise is meant to be kept. A few days ago, and seeing that securing vaccines was a bridge too far for the regime in possession of the country, we challenged former President Lt. Gen. Dr. Seretse Khama lan Khama to use his international linkages and credibility to secure vaccines for Batswana since the regime is failing to. Lt. Gen. Dr. Khama promised he would do his best. He has since delivered where those shorn of credibility have failed by securing 2 million doses of Oxford-Astra-Zeneca and Pfizer BioNTech Covid 19 vaccines for Botswana.” Ookeditse asserted.
With only four (4) days left for the offer to expire, the BPF is demanding that the government and President Masisi submit the requisite purchase order and end user certificate. “We understand that the regime finds it rather excruciating to get anything done but surely they now should swallow their pride and do the needful to save our nation.” Ookeditse suggested, It’s now over to you Messrs.β Masisi, Slumber and Dikoloti. The nation awaits. You’ve got five days to do something meaningful in quite a while.” he added.
While they thank their patron and his Foundation ” for being concerned enough about the lives of our people to secure vaccines where government has failed”, the BPF says it high time Masisi’s government realizes that they need to work on their credibility and to reconcile their distance from the truth for international actors to take them seriously.
