Tree Planting Vital –First Lady

Her Excellency the First Lady of the Republic of Botswana, Mrs Neo Jane Masisi says it is important to plant trees to curb the effects of climate change.

Speaking at a tree planting event organised by Khoemacau Copper Mine in Toteng yesterday, the First Lady said there are many changes in Botswana’s climate which have affected weather seasons adding that planting of trees could help mitigate against those.

She thanked the Khoemacau Copper Mine for inviting her to the bicycle charity race and further said planting a tree in Toteng Kgotla was a bonus.

The First Lady said the invite has allowed her to meet and connect with the community and the people of Toteng Village, one thing she loves most.

She said when Khoemacau Copper Mine opened, it made a promise not to only make profits, but to contribute to the lives of the people, and tree planting with the community is testament to that promise.

The First lady commended the management of Khoemacau Copper mine for embracing and engaging with the community as promised since their inception.

For his part the Chief Executive Officer of Khoemacau Mine, Mr Jahan Ferreira said they will be planting 2000 trees this year alone.

He highlighted that tree planting is the symbol of the start of life and shows a journey of growth and development.

He added that trees are beneficial to the lives of people as they take cabondioxide from the atmosphere and replace with oxygen.

Khoemacau Copper Mine will be holding its inaguaral Lake Ngami Cycle Classic in Toteng Village today and the First Lady is the guest rider.
