Envoys Present Credentials

President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi earlier today received letters of credence from the United Nations (UN) Resident Coordinator and the High Commissioner of the Great Britain at the Office of the President.

Speaking in an interview after presenting his credentials, the UN Resident Coordinator Mr Zia Choudhury said they are going to work with the Government of Botswana and her people to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which he said are in line with the country’s Vision 2036. β€œSome of the priorities would be to ensure that the economy remain buoyant, diverse and strong to the future.

A key thing for all UN agencies in Botswana is that we want the fruits or economic benefits to reach every and most marginalised. We want to make sure no one is left behind in the phenomenal success of Botswana,” he saidFor her part the High Commissioner of Great Britain to Botswana Ms Sian Rhyannon Price said her country wants to continue with the long standing strong relations the two countries have enjoyed over the years.

β€œWe spoke about economic recovery to COVID-19, how we can assist each other in improving our trade relationships and improving regional trade,” she saidShe noted her country’s response to COVID-19 is focusing on four areas, among them helping vulnerable countries with their resilience, research for vaccine and economic recovery.
