The Botswana Investment and Trade Centre (BITC), in partnership with SPEDU and the Ministry of Agriculture, recently organized a media tour of two of the country’s agricultural projects- Africa Ranch 5 (AR5) and Kwadiwa Ranch Citrus Farms in Tuli Block.

The purpose of this tour was twofold: to showcase the high-quality products grown by local farmers and to demonstrate the significant advancements made in the agricultural sector. Additionally, it aimed to foster a stronger connection and understanding between the agricultural sector and the media.

AR5 was established in 1997 as a farming company based in Sherwood. Over the years, the horticulture division of the business has grown to a planting hectare of 240 ha of potatoes under overhead irrigation, 16 ha of onions under drip irrigation, and 25 000 citrus trees.

Kwadiwa Ranch Citrus Farm, on the other hand, has 50 hectares of land that has been prepared based on best practices for the project. They have planted citrus trees on 33 hectares for the current season, including 1,800 orange trees (Bennie Valentia and Gus Kora Valentia) and 1,000 lemon trees (Eureka). The media tour was organised in anticipation of the Selebi Phikwe Citrus Project 1st Harvest, slated for March 21, 2024.
